Historical Data

Historical data is past market information used for backtesting, analysis, and research. It includes historical prices, volumes, and trading activity.

Understanding the Concept

You can't build trading strategies without historical data. Backtesting requires years of price history. Technical analysis needs enough candles to identify patterns. Machine learning models need training data.

Quality matters enormously. Missing data, incorrect prices, and gaps can invalidate your entire analysis. Historical data should be clean, complete, and properly adjusted for splits, delistings, and other corporate actions.

Storage and retrieval also matter. Tick-level data for one asset for one year might be gigabytes. You need efficient ways to query specific time ranges without downloading everything.

Real-World Example

You want to backtest a moving average strategy on ETH. You need daily OHLCV data from 2017 to present. Historical data API returns clean candles with no gaps, properly adjusted for the ETH/ETH2 merge. Your backtest runs on accurate data.

How PRISM Handles This

PRISM provides historical data going back to each asset's inception. Daily, hourly, and minute candles available via REST. We handle data cleaning, gap filling, and corporate action adjustments. Download bulk data or query specific ranges.
